The Illusive Traveler shandy rounds out a list of fruity selections at the Traveler Beer Company. Made with real grapefruit, it offers a unique alternative to the currently trendy shandy beers. While the Traveler Beer Company also has a classic, lemon shandy—the Curious Traveler—their Illusive Traveler is very popular among fans of all things grapefruit.

About the Brewer

Based in Vermont, the Traveler Beer Company specializes in craft shandys. The company felt the booming, craft-beer scene included a lot of IPAs, but not many shandys. With that in mind, the brewery came out with shandys of many different flavors, such as lemon, ginger, grapefruit, and strawberry. Curious Traveler (lemon) and Illusive Traveler (grapefruit) are available year round, while the other flavors are either seasonal or only limited releases.

About the Beer

It pours hazy orange with a thin, white head. The smell of grapefruit and citrus hints at the wheat beer’s refreshing nature. Light-bodied and not too sweet, it’s a drink that goes down effortlessly. It’s strong enough to be noticed, but not overpowering—a refreshing take on the shandy.
